New Wave of Attacks on the Russian Capital

In the night of June 26, Moscow came under attack again. According to Russian Telegram channels, unidentified drones were launched at the capital and the surrounding region. The situation developed rapidly: air defense systems began operations almost immediately after the attack started.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin was the first to report the events on his social media. According to him, the first wave of the attack began around 02:30 AM. Shortly thereafter, he stated that Russian air defenses had shot down 10 drones heading towards the city.

Scale of the Operation and Flight Trajectories

Over the course of an hour, the situation did not subside. Sobyanin continued to publish updates, reporting on newly shot-down aircraft. Notably, in some messages, the mayor did not specify that the drones were flying specifically towards Moscow, indirectly suggesting that some of the unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down directly over the territory of the capital.

As of 03:39 AM, according to official statements, the Russian air defense system had already destroyed 30 unmanned aerial vehicles. Currently, there is no information regarding possible consequences of the attack, damage, or casualties.

Context: Escalation and Redistribution of Forces

This is not the first such incident in recent times. Just a week ago, on the morning of June 18, Ukrainian drones carried out a massive raid on Moscow. At that time, an oil refinery in the Kapotnya district came under attack, where a large fire broke out. The attack was the largest in the last two years, and city residents complained about the consequences, including the so-called "oil rain".

In response to these events, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is transferring significant air defense forces to strengthen the defense of Moscow and the Kerch Bridge area. According to him, this has led to a weakening of protection in other directions, which could become a critical factor in the current geopolitical situation.
