On the night of June 11, the city of Konotop in the Sumy region became the target of a large-scale attack by the Russian armed forces. As a result of strikes on infrastructure, the settlement was left without electricity and water supply. The situation in the city remains tense, with work continuing to eliminate the consequences and restore communications.

Strike on infrastructure and consequences

According to data provided by RBK-Ukraine citing Konotop Mayor Artem Semenykhin, the main strikes hit critical life-support facilities. At 7:00 a.m., a strike on the gas network was recorded, leading to the suspension of gas supply in part of the city. Residential buildings were also damaged.

Later, the mayor confirmed that as a result of the morning attack, the city was completely deprived of light and water. Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration Oleg Hryhorov reported hits on civilian infrastructure objects. A fire broke out at the site of the Russian drone's impact, requiring the efforts of fire services to extinguish.

Casualties and injured

The number of injured as a result of the attack has risen to four people. As of the evening, two men and two women are in hospitals. Doctors assess their condition as moderate and severe.

Significant burns to various parts of the body — arms, legs, head — were recorded among the wounded. The condition of one of the injured men is particularly severe, with burns covering 55% of his body surface. Earlier, it was reported that a woman born in 1984 received a shrapnel wound to her leg; she received medical assistance and is undergoing outpatient treatment.

Strike on the railway depot

In addition to civilian infrastructure, a transport hub was also hit. Head of the Board of "Ukrzaliznytsia" Alexander Pertsovsky confirmed that a "Shahed" type drone struck the railway depot in Konotop. This complicates logistics and the operation of railway transport in the region.

General context of the attack

The attack on Konotop took place as part of a massive strike on Ukraine, which Russian troops launched on the night of June 11. According to sources, the enemy used more than two hundred unmanned aerial vehicles and "Iskander-M" missiles. Ukraine's air defense systems shot down most of the targets, but it was not possible to avoid all hits.

Parallel to the strikes on the north of the country, the occupiers carried out several waves of attacks on the south of the Odesa region, where civilian objects and energy infrastructure were also damaged. In the Kharkiv region in the morning, a drone hit a multi-story residential building, which also led to casualties and destruction.

In the Black Sea on the same day, Russian forces attacked two cargo ships under the flags of Barbados and Panama, sailing along the maritime corridor. These incidents indicate an expansion of the geography of military actions and a threat to civilian shipping.
