Large-Scale Combined Attack on the Capital
On the night of June 2, Ukraine faced a large-scale combined attack from Russia. According to sources, the enemy used ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles. The strikes hit several administrative districts of Kyiv, causing infrastructure damage, fires, and casualties.
Information about the consequences of the attack was confirmed by the head of the Kyiv Civil Protection, Tymur Tkachenko, and the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko. The situation in the city remains tense, with firefighting and debris removal operations continuing.
Situation in the Podilskyi District
Some of the most severe consequences were recorded in the Podilskyi district. Around midnight, non-residential buildings and cars caught fire there. At another address, missile debris fell on the roof of a residential building, causing a fire and shattering windows.
Particular concern is caused by the situation at a multi-story residential building where structural damage occurred. Preliminary data suggests that people may be trapped under the rubble. Medical personnel have already hospitalized one injured person in this district.
Destruction in Other Districts of the City
The consequences of the attack were also recorded in other parts of the capital:
- Obolon District: Drone debris fell near a kindergarten, and a fire broke out at an unfinished construction site. Cars and open areas also caught fire at two addresses.
- Shevchenkivskyi District: The facade of a residential building was damaged. It is likely that a missile hit a 24-story residential building, causing a fire on the 4th-5th floors.
- Solomianskyi District: Upper floors of a 15-story building were damaged due to falling missile debris. A fire occurred in a private estate after drone debris fell.
- Sviatoshynskyi District: A fire was recorded in a non-residential area.
- Darnytskyi District: A fire occurred at a gas station.
- Holosiyivskyi District: Cars caught fire in an open area.
Casualties and Infrastructure
As of 4:25 AM, four injured people were known in the capital. Power outages were also recorded in the Podilskyi, Obolon, and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
Geopolitical Context
This attack comes against the backdrop of statements by Russian leadership. Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Russia's intention to systematically shell Kyiv, justifying this with actions by the Ukrainian Defense Forces against Russia's oil refining industry. Moscow even called on diplomatic missions to leave the Ukrainian capital. However, for example, the US denied reports of evacuating its ambassadors and called for de-escalation of the conflict.
