Ukraine experienced a large-scale night attack from Russia. During the strike, the enemy used missiles and dozens of attack unmanned aerial vehicles. Despite the active work of the air defense system, debris from shot-down targets and direct hits were recorded in several regions of the country.
Scale and directions of the attack
According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, drones were launched from several directions. The threat came from the Russian regions of Kursk and Orel oblasts, as well as from Millerovo. A significant part of the attack drones was launched from the occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea, in particular from the points of Guardiansk and Chauda.
All available means were used to repel the attack: aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and unmanned systems. Mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces also participated in intercepting targets.
Results of air defense work and consequences
Preliminary data as of 09:30 indicates that the Ukrainian air defense neutralized the overwhelming majority of targets. However, despite the high efficiency of the air defense, it was not without incidents. The fall of debris and damage caused by it were recorded in several regions.
Particular attention was drawn to the situation in the Odesa region. In the morning, the enemy launched a repeated air strike on the region. As a result of the attack on the territory of a transport enterprise, buses caught fire, and four private houses were damaged. Three men aged 58, 62, and 66 were injured and hospitalized in moderate condition. The consequences of the morning attack on the Odesa region are still being clarified.
Incident on the border with Moldova
During the night attack, one of the enemy targets left Ukrainian airspace. A "Geran-2" type kamikaze drone fell and exploded near the Moldovan village of Kopanka. Preliminary data indicates that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
The Ministry of Defense of Moldova confirmed that the drone ended up in their airspace precisely due to the Russian attack on the Odesa region of Ukraine.
Current situation
The Air Force of Ukraine warned that the threat remains. The attack is ongoing, enemy drones remain in the sky, so citizens are advised to strictly follow safety rules.
