The night in Yaroslavl passed amidst the roar of explosions and air raid sirens. As a result of a massive drone attack, a large industrial zone specializing in fuel storage and processing caught fire in the city. The incident led to a temporary collapse of transport logistics on a key route towards the capital.
Massive Strike and Consequences
Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevraev confirmed the fact of a large-scale attack. According to him, the region's air defense system worked effectively, and most drones were shot down before reaching their targets. However, losses could not be avoided: some drones broke through and struck fuel storage facilities. Bright lights flared in the night sky, and smoke from burning tanks enveloped the industrial district.
Blockade of the Exit to Moscow
The situation on the roads became critical. Around 04:00 AM, traffic on the exit from the city towards Moscow was completely blocked. A traffic jam formed at the intersection of Moscow Prospect and the South-West Ring Road — a strategically important hub leading directly to the oil refinery and industrial zone. The restriction lasted for several hours until security services ensured safety and began to eliminate the consequences.
By morning, the governor reported that traffic had been restored and the drone danger mode lifted. Nevertheless, the incident vividly demonstrated the vulnerability of logistical arteries and industrial centers under modern hybrid threats.
Part of the Bigger Picture
The attack on Yaroslavl is not an isolated event. The day before, Volgograd was hit by drones, where one of the country's largest refineries — Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka — was damaged. Earlier, on May 27, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an oil refinery in Tuapse, marking the fifth attack on this facility this season. The chain of strikes against Russia's energy infrastructure continues, threatening the stability of fuel supplies.
