Sunday evening, June 14, became a time of intense confrontation in the sky over Ukraine. Russian forces attempted a massive attack using 'Shahed' suicide drones, targeting the capital — Kyiv. However, the Ukrainian air defense system and aerial interception means demonstrated high efficiency, preventing enemy drones from reaching their targets.
'Shaheds' tried to break through Shostka and Nizhyn
Sergey "Flash" Beskrestnov, advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, reported in his Telegram channel that the drones attempted to penetrate Kyiv through the cities of Shostka and Nizhyn. "One by one, 'Shaheds' try to break through, but our interceptor drones and helicopter pilots are not giving them any chance," he wrote.
Combat operations by the Defense Forces continue. Approximately an hour prior, an air raid alarm was declared in Kyiv due to the threat of drone usage. However, subsequently, the alarm was lifted in the capital — the threat was neutralized.
Combined strike: what is known about Russia's plans
Monitoring channels report that a combined strike on Ukraine is possible tonight. Preliminary data indicates launches of drone groups and missiles from at least five directions.
Additionally, information has emerged online regarding the readiness of Russian strategic aircraft for missile strikes. It is claimed that Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, Tu-160 bombers, as well as MiG-31K fighters and cruise missile carriers ('Kalibr') in Novorossiysk, are on duty.
It is important to emphasize: data regarding the readiness of aircraft is unofficial. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not yet confirmed the departure of Russian bombers.
Context: the threat of the 'Oreshnik' missile and Kremlin logic
Recall that a few days ago, on June 12, the Air Force of Ukraine warned citizens of a high probability of a strike by a medium-range ballistic missile — the 'Oreshnik'. This weapon is capable of causing serious damage to infrastructure and triggering mass destruction.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), behind the threat of launching the 'Oreshnik' lies a specific Kremlin logic: to demonstrate strength where it has already been called into question. Russia strives to maintain the image of a powerful player, despite growing losses and pressure on the front.
Air raid alarm map at 23:14
As of 23:14, the air raid alarm map shows active zones in the central and northern parts of Ukraine. Residents of the regions are on standby for a possible renewed escalation of the situation.
The situation remains dynamic. Ukrainian authorities urge the population to remain vigilant and follow civil defense instructions. Combat operations continue — and every hour may bring new challenges.
