On the night of October 20, the capital of Ukraine was subjected to a series of strikes using jet-powered drones, and throughout the previous day, Kyiv had been under shelling. According to RBC-Ukraine, this was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. He stated that the consequences of the attack were recorded in at least two districts of the city — Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi. The Air Force had previously warned about the raid and the threat of ballistic weaponry being used, after which explosions rang out in the city.
Warning and Strikes on the Capital
An air threat signal was issued by the Air Force, which reported a drone raid and the potential use of ballistic weapons. After the alert was lifted, explosions thundered across Kyiv. According to the press service of the Kyiv City Military Administration, at 23:41 in the Solomianskyi district, a drone fall was recorded in a non-residential area. The mayor specified that as a result, a transport infrastructure facility was hit.
Consequences in Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi Districts
A fire broke out at the site of the drone crash in the Solomianskyi district, and emergency services were dispatched to the scene. In the second affected district, Sviatoshynskyi, drone debris reportedly fell in an open area. At the time of publication, no casualties had been reported from this district. Thus, the consequences of the nighttime drone attack were documented in two districts of the capital.
Repeated Strike on the Cardiology Institute
Other strikes were also carried out against Kyiv during the day. Among the consequences was a repeated hit on the Cardiology Institute, where an operating room came under fire once again. This is the second time during the current period that a medical facility in the capital has become the target of an attack, pointing to a systematic pattern of strikes against civilian and medical targets.
Power Grid Accident and Electric Transport Disruptions
A separate strike hit the Shevchenkivskyi district, where a power facility was reportedly targeted. As a result, four districts of Kyiv experienced power supply problems, and electric public transport operations were partially suspended. The disruptions in the energy system were the result of infrastructure damage and led to restrictions on city transport.
Summary: Casualties and Fatalities
As of the morning of October 20, the total number of people injured as a result of the attacks on the capital rose to 21. Of these, 12 wounded individuals were hospitalized, with three in critical condition. One person was killed. Data from the mayor's office and the city military administration record both human losses and damage to transport, energy, and medical infrastructure.
