On the night of June 3, Ukrainian defense forces carried out a large-scale operation, striking a number of strategically important objects on Russian territory. The operation affected not only border regions but also areas hundreds of kilometers away from the front line. This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his Telegram channel.
Targets of the Attack: From St. Petersburg to Tambov
According to the head of state, strikes were launched along three key directions. The main target was the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal — one of the largest oil refining complexes in northwestern Russia. Zelenskyy emphasized that the facility is located about 1,100 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
The President noted that the oil terminal is part of Russia’s energy infrastructure, which, in his words, “fuels the war.” As a result of the attack, a large fire broke out at the St. Petersburg port, confirmed by visual data and eyewitness reports.
Military Facilities and Production Sites
The second target of the operation was the Kronstadt Naval Base — purely military facilities of strategic importance to the Russian Navy. The third target was a facility in the Tambov region, which, according to Ukrainian sources, is involved in weapons production. The distance from the front line to this site is nearly 600 kilometers.
Role of Intelligence Services and Unmanned Systems
Zelenskyy thanked the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), and the State Border Guard Service for their participation in the operation. He called the strikes part of the “Ukrainian long-range sanctions plan,” which, in his view, brings peace closer.
“Thank you to our soldiers for their precision. The Ukrainian long-range sanctions plan is being executed exactly as needed to bring peace closer,” the President stated.
Response from Russian Authorities
Around 6 a.m., Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region, reported that 30 drones were shot down over the region. However, he did not comment on the fire at the St. Petersburg port, despite the obvious scale of the incident.
JSC “St. Petersburg Oil Terminal” remains a key element in Russia’s logistics chain for exporting oil and petroleum products. Its damage could have significant consequences for the Russian economy and export flows.
