The night of July 2nd became a time of severe trial for the capital of Ukraine. Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv, using a wide range of weaponry: from unmanned aerial vehicles to ballistic and cruise missiles. The city came under attack following a wave of drones, leading to extensive destruction and fires in the central districts.
Destruction in the Center and Casualties
Special attention from the media and rescue services is focused on the city center, where debris and projectiles hit a three-story non-residential building. Significant damage was also inflicted on the roof of one of the capital's hotels, where large-scale fires broke out. It is in this area that the first reports of human casualties were recorded. As of 02:32 AM, five injured persons were known.
Strike on the Healthcare System
One of the most severe consequences of the attack was damage to the ambulance infrastructure. The building housing one of the ambulance stations suffered partial destruction. As a result of the incident, five medical workers were injured. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the condition of one of them—a paramedic—is assessed as extremely critical. In addition to doctors, the drivers of the station, who were attempting to provide assistance or evacuate patients, also sustained injuries.
Fires and Trapped People
As a result of enemy shelling, the roof of a multi-story residential building caught fire. Units of the State Emergency Service (SES) are working at the scene. Partial destruction of another residential building was also recorded, where, according to preliminary data, people were trapped. Rescue workers are conducting operations to free them and extinguish the fires.
Zelenskyy's Warning
Before the start of this attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while visiting Ireland, held a press conference where he warned citizens of an increased threat. Citing Ukrainian intelligence data, the head of state stated that Russia was preparing a new massive strike against the country's territory. Zelenskyy called on the population to be maximally vigilant and under no circumstances to ignore air raid alarms.
