The night of June 15 marked a new escalation for the capital of Ukraine. Russian forces once again carried out a combined shelling of Kyiv, striking with both drones and ballistic missiles. The consequences of the attack were extensive: a significant part of the city was left without electricity, and fires were recorded in the historic center.
Mass Power Outages
According to official data cited by RBC-Ukraine from the Telegram channel of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, power lines were damaged as a result of the attack. This led to widespread power supply disruptions.
The northern districts of the capital were particularly affected. According to the city mayor, 140,000 subscribers were left without light. In total, preliminary estimates suggest that outages affected more than 100,000 residents of the city. Energy workers are already working to eliminate the consequences and restore the power supply.
Course of the Attack: From Drones to Ballistics
The aggression against the Ukrainian capital began in the evening. Russian occupiers attempted to attack Kyiv using unmanned aerial vehicles. However, the main blow fell during the night hours. On the night of June 15, the enemy launched several salvos of ballistic missiles at the city.
Powerful explosions were heard in the city, accompanying the arrival of shells. The combined nature of the attack, combining sabotage strikes by drones and high-precision ballistic missiles, allowed the enemy to damage critical infrastructure.
Fires in the City and Threat to Cultural Monuments
The consequences of the missile strike became evident not only in the form of dark apartment windows. Fires were recorded in several buildings in Kyiv. The situation on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra — one of the main spiritual and cultural centers of Ukraine, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List — is of particular concern.
A building on the monastery grounds caught fire. The situation remains tense while fire services carry out work to extinguish the fire. The damage inflicted on the historical heritage may be irreparable.
