A new power supply problem has erupted in the Poltava region. This time, the cause is not missile strikes, but the elements. Due to worsening weather conditions, emergency power outages have been introduced in several hromadas of the region.
Scale of the outage
Official information was confirmed by Vitaliy Dyakivnych, Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration. According to him, the elements have struck four administrative units: Lozova, Hadiach, Zinkiv, and Semenovka communities.
As a result of weather-related disasters, 27 settlements are left without power. In total, outages affected about 3,000 consumers. This is a serious blow to daily life and regional infrastructure, especially during the summer heat.
Restoration work
The situation is under control. As Dyakivnych reported, employees of "Poltavaoblenergo" have already begun to eliminate the consequences of the accident. Energy workers are on-site, restoring damaged lines and equipment to return power to residents of affected areas as quickly as possible.
Context of the energy crisis
Events in the Poltava region are just part of the overall picture that has emerged in Ukraine in mid-July. The country's energy system is under colossal pressure from two sides: due to weather conditions and as a result of military actions.
Earlier, on July 6, as a result of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, individual districts of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions were left without electricity. Although restoration work is already underway in most regions, it has not yet been possible to resume power supply everywhere.
Even earlier, on July 3, Kyiv and several regions faced the need to introduce power outage schedules. Then the cause was not external factors, but internal overload: record electricity consumption due to abnormal heat threatened the stability of equipment operation.
Shift in threat vector
Experts note a change in the geography of problems. If previously the peak of outages was recorded in Sumy, now the most difficult situation has arisen in Donetsk region. There, energy infrastructure is regularly damaged due to intense Russian shelling, making the restoration of networks an extremely difficult and lengthy process.
