On June 30, Ukraine faced a critical situation regarding power supply. According to the Ministry of Energy, approximately 600 settlements remain without electricity. The causes include both natural disasters and ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure.
Bad Weather and Destruction
Artem Nekrasov, the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, confirmed that the large-scale outages are linked to the aftermath of severe weather. In several regions, strong winds have toppled trees, severing power lines. Repair crews are already on-site to restore power supply as quickly as possible.
However, the issue is not limited to weather factors alone. A significant portion of the outages is caused by military hostilities and strikes on energy facilities. As a result of these attacks, substations and lines have been damaged, leading to cascading outages in several regions.
Rolling Blackouts
Due to the strained situation in the energy system, rolling blackouts for industry and business have been introduced across all regions of Ukraine from 17:00 to 22:00 on June 30. Hourly outages are also planned for all categories of consumers—up to one queue.
This decision was made to stabilize the operation of the power grid and prevent a total system collapse. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal promised that the government would take all necessary measures to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
Regional Situation
The most difficult situation has arisen in regions where the consequences of bad weather coincide with strikes on infrastructure. In some areas, strict emergency outages have already been implemented. Residents of these territories are facing prolonged power interruptions.
Experts note that restoring power supply will take time and significant resources. Nevertheless, authorities promise to do everything possible to minimize inconvenience for the population and businesses.
