On May 27, the Odesa region once again found itself at the epicenter of Russian aggression. On Wednesday morning, enemy attack drones carried out a series of targeted strikes on civilian objects in the Odesa district. The targets of the attack were not military positions, but the everyday lives of people: residential buildings, grocery stores, and branches of the popular courier service "Nova Poshta".
The situation on the ground unfolded rapidly. After the drones crashed, fires broke out, engulfing several private cars. Thick smoke enveloped the surroundings, and rescuers and firefighters, as seen in the photos from the scene, immediately began to eliminate the consequences. Their work in conditions of smoke and the risk of repeated strikes requires incredible professionalism and courage.
The tragedy affected civilians. According to the latest data, the number of casualties reached 11 people. Among them are not only adults but also children. Eight of the injured require hospitalization. Doctors are diagnosing shrapnel wounds, burns, traumatic brain injuries, and acute stress reactions in the victims. Three of them are in critical condition.
Among the injured are a 12-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy. Their injuries remind us that war makes no exceptions for the most vulnerable. Among the injured adults are six men and three women aged 38 to 65. Two of them sustained serious injuries, while the others have injuries of moderate severity.
"The enemy deliberately attacked the civilian infrastructure of our region," emphasized the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Kiper. He noted that law enforcement agencies have already begun to document this war crime. Investigators are recording every fact of destruction and every human suffering to hold the guilty accountable in the future.
Emergency services are working around the clock. Firefighters are extinguishing fires, medics are providing aid to the injured, and utility workers are restoring the destroyed. However, the number of casualties continues to grow, which testifies to the scale and brutality of the strike.
This is not the first attack on the Odesa region in recent days. On the evening of May 25, the city was subjected to a combined strike, resulting in one death. On the night of May 24, residential buildings were destroyed, and on the night of May 20, Russian forces carried out a massive shelling of several directions, including the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
Each new strike on Odesa is not just statistics. It is ruined lives, frightened children, burning homes, and the endless work of rescuers trying to keep the situation under control. The civilian population remains the main target for the aggressor, and every day requires incredible resilience from Ukrainians.
