Famous Ukrainian choreographer Olena Shoptenko, who has been living in Vienna since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, gave a frank interview for the Wave project on RBC-Ukraine. In the conversation, she spoke in detail about integration into European society, the mindset of Austrians, social living standards in the country, as well as a cardinal change in her professional vector and a new marriage.

Life in Vienna and Cultural Differences

According to the choreographer, adaptation in Austria took time and a rethinking of habitual behavioral patterns. Shoptenko notes that Austrians are distinguished by greater restraint in emotional expression and a reverent attitude toward personal boundaries. Unlike Ukraine, it is strictly forbidden here to publish photos of people or children on social media without their consent, which is a manifestation of respect for privacy. In addition, the artist emphasized the high level of social security for the elderly in Austria, thanks to which pensioners can lead an active and dignified life.

New Profession and Dance Therapy

Having moved abroad, Olena Shoptenko not only continued her creative activities but also mastered a new profession, starting training as a dance movement therapist. She is the author of the psycho-emotional recovery program «Hush! Dancepy». This scientifically proven method is actively used abroad to work with the psyche through the body. Shoptenko regularly returns to Ukraine with charitable projects aimed at raising funds for prosthetics for Ukrainian veterans.

Wedding with an Austrian and Personal Happiness

A significant part of the interview was the artist's revelations about her personal life. Olena shared details of her marriage to an Austrian citizen named Christian. The wedding ceremony took place in the romantic atmosphere of an old Austrian castle. The choreographer confessed that she is incredibly happy in her new relationship and appreciates the reliability, support, and care from her husband, noting that she was very lucky to meet this person.

Controversial Data

In open sources and the media, discussions periodically arise regarding how quickly Ukrainian migrants can integrate into European professional communities and confirm their qualifications. Some experts point to rigid bureaucratic barriers and the need to undergo lengthy retraining in psychotherapy and medicine in EU countries. At the same time, the successful experience of Olena Shoptenko, who combines charitable practice, studies in England and Austria, and the mastery of new therapeutic directions, proves that with high motivation and adaptability, Ukrainian specialists are able to successfully realize themselves at the international level, overcoming any institutional obstacles.
