Ukrainian tennis player Alexandra Oleynikova has prematurely ended her participation in the WTA tournament in Hamburg, Germany. The 25-year-old athlete withdrew from the quarterfinal match, which was scheduled to take place yesterday.
Match against Avanesyan did not take place
In the fight for a spot in the semifinals, Oleynikova was set to face Armenian representative Elina Avanesyan. The Armenian tennis player reached the main draw of the competition through the qualifying round. However, the match never started — the Ukrainian officially withdrew from the tournament.
The official reasons for Alexandra's withdrawal from further competition remain unknown. Organizers and the athlete herself have not yet provided comments regarding the circumstances of the withdrawal.
Successful season and prospects
This quarterfinal was set to be Oleynikova's third in her career at the WTA level. In the current season, she has already demonstrated high results, reaching the semifinals at tournaments in Cluj-Napoca and Iasi, Romania.
Following Oleynikova's withdrawal, Angelina Kalinina remains the sole Ukrainian representative in the singles draw of the Hamburg tournament. In her quarterfinal match, she will face local German tennis player Tatjana Maria.
