In August 2024, the entrepreneur was detained in France. Local law enforcement officers charged him with insufficient moderation of illegal content within the messenger. After this, Durov was released on bail.

It was previously reported that US sanctions accidentally led to the blocking of some messenger functions, which also caused a wide resonance.
