Pavel Durov, the founder of the popular messaging app Telegram, has become a suspect in a new criminal case in Russia. The Federal Security Service (FSB) has charged the entrepreneur with aiding terrorism. Consequently, an international arrest warrant has been issued.

The FSB officially presented Durov with a series of charges; however, it is important to understand that at this stage, these claims remain statements by the agency and have not been confirmed by independent sources. Pavel Durov is a well-known Russian programmer and billionaire who left Russia back in 2014. The reason for his departure was a prolonged conflict with the authorities and the loss of control over the social network VK. According to Durov himself, he refused to comply with the demands of Russian intelligence agencies regarding the provision of user data and control over the activities of opposition communities.

Creation of Telegram and recent detentions

In 2013, Pavel, together with his brother Nikolai, launched the Telegram messenger, which subsequently became one of the most influential platforms in the world. However, the history of interaction with law enforcement agencies is not limited to events in Russia.

In August 2024, the entrepreneur was detained in France. Local law enforcement officers charged him with insufficient moderation of illegal content within the messenger. After this, Durov was released on bail.

Against the backdrop of unfolding legal battles, news emerged about new plans by the developers. Pavel Durov announced the implementation of a new "anti-censorship" update for Telegram. It was previously reported that US sanctions accidentally led to the blocking of some messenger functions, which also caused a wide resonance.
