In Ukraine, mothers of many children have the opportunity to claim a separate pension supplement. The state plans to reward women for their special merits by allocating funds to those who have raised five or more children. The amount of this payment depends directly on the number of offspring, and the procedure itself requires the personal involvement of citizens.
Legal basis and conditions for appointment
It is important to understand that Ukrainian legislation does not have a separate law dedicated exclusively to pensions for mothers of many children. However, the mechanism for the additional payment already exists and is enshrined in the first part of Article 6 of Law No. 1767. According to this document, the payment is made specifically for special merits to the state.
The key condition for obtaining this status is the birth and upbringing to the age of six of at least five children. The law makes no distinction between biological and adopted children: for the state, the fact of upbringing is what matters. In exceptional cases, the right to this supplement passes to the father if the mother has died or been deprived of parental rights, and the man raised the children himself.
Payment amounts in 2026
The amount of financial support is tied to the subsistence minimum for non-working persons. In 2026, this figure is 2595 hryvnias. Based on this base, the pension supplement ranges from 908.25 to 1038 hryvnias. The specific amount will depend on exactly how many children the woman raised.
Registration procedure and deadlines
The Pension Fund does not automatically accrue these funds. To receive the additional payment, a woman must personally visit the nearest branch of the fund and submit the appropriate application. A critically important point is the date of application: the payment is accrued specifically from that day. This means that delaying the documentation is not worth it — every missed month remains without financial compensation.
Age preferences for retirement
In addition to the financial supplement, mothers of many children have the right to early retirement. They can receive payments as early as 50 years old, whereas the general retirement age is 60 years. The only mandatory condition for realizing this right is having an insurance record of at least 15 years.
Context of pension reform
Changes in the field of pension provision concern not only mothers. The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law changing the approach to social protection of internally displaced persons. Now the state no longer has the right to establish separate rules for pension appointment for refugees. Payments will be made on a general basis, without the requirement to confirm non-receipt of a pension from Russia.
Experts also remind about the difficulties faced by citizens who had unofficial work experience in the 1990s and 2000s. To receive a pension in 2026, 33 years of work experience are required. If this is lacking, citizens have options to buy the missing years or receive payments later, when the work experience is accumulated.
