Starting June 1, Ukraine begins funding payments for the first summer month. Although there is no general pension recalculation scheduled for this month, certain categories of citizens will receive increased amounts and additional accruals. We examine who is eligible for top-ups and how payment statistics have changed over the last two months.
Payment funding: April and May statistics
The Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) has published data on the distribution of funds ahead of summer. During April and May, the agency provided millions of services to citizens — 1,584.9 thousand in April and 1,572.5 thousand in May.
The majority of funds are allocated for pension payments. In May, 74.5 billion UAH was allocated for this purpose, which is almost identical to April's figures (75.0 billion UAH). Of this amount, 9.4 billion UAH was distributed through PJSC "Ukrposhta", and 65.6 billion UAH through authorized banks.
Other expenditure items were distributed as follows:
- Housing subsidies and benefits: 3.3 billion UAH was funded in May (compared to 4.8 billion UAH in April).
- Insurance payments: 3.5 billion UAH was allocated in May, of which 2.1 billion UAH was for sick leave payments. In April, the amount was 3.8 billion UAH (2.4 billion UAH for sick leave).
- Social assistance and other payments: 10.9 billion UAH was allocated in May, which is significantly less than April's figures of 28.5 billion UAH.
Who is eligible for top-ups in June 2026
Despite the absence of a general indexation starting June 1, the PFU clarified the categories of recipients who will see an increase in their card balances. The first item on the list is working pensioners.
The recalculation will affect those who, as of April, have accumulated at least 24 months of additional insurance service. In June, these citizens will receive updated pension amounts, as well as a top-up for April and May.
The delay in recalculation is due to bureaucratic procedures: employers are required to submit reports on the payment of the single social contribution (SSC) for the first quarter within 40 days after its end. Therefore, data for January-March enters the registries only in mid-May.
Age-related top-ups: accrual rules
In June, monthly top-ups related to the recipient's age continue to apply. The main advantage of this category of payments is the automation of the process. There is no need to visit PFU offices: the top-up is accrued from the day the corresponding age is reached.
However, there are important nuances that affect the final amount:
- Payment limit: the total pension amount of the recipient must not exceed 10,340.35 UAH.
- Date of birth: if a pensioner was born on the 1st of the month, they receive the full increase immediately. If the birthday falls in the middle or end of the month (e.g., the 20th), the top-up is accrued only for the days after reaching the age.
- Difference principle: when moving to the next age category, a full new top-up is not assigned, but only the difference is added. For example, upon reaching 75 years of age, a person receives an additional 156 UAH, not 456 UAH, as 300 UAH were already established after turning 70.
Risks of payment suspension for persons with disabilities
The PFU warned about the possible suspension of payments for persons with disabilities if their status is not lifelong. To resume funding, it is necessary to undergo a repeat medical examination within the established time limits.
Until the official confirmation of the diagnosis, the funding of such pensions will be frozen. Citizens are advised to carefully monitor the deadlines for undergoing the medical and social examination to avoid delays in receiving funds.
