In Ukraine, key figures that directly determine the size of future payments have changed. The Pension Fund of Ukraine has approved new average wage indicators used in the pension calculation formula. In the first three months of the year, this critically important parameter increased by more than 1,300 hryvnias — a significant jump that will not go unnoticed.

The Math Behind Your Payments

It is important to understand: this is not about how much you receive "in hand" today, but about a special coefficient that the PFU inserts into the formula. It is precisely this coefficient that determines the final amount on a pensioner's card. In the first three months of 2024, the indicator increased by 1,342 hryvnias. This means that the base for calculating pensions for those retiring now is becoming more substantial.

The formula by which your pension is formed is simple, yet no less significant:

Pension = Average Wage × Wage Coefficient × Service Coefficient.

The logic of the system is transparent: if a person received an official income higher than the national average throughout a long career, their pension payments will be correspondingly higher. An individual approach to each case is the principle on which the system is built.

What is Taken into Account in the Calculation?

When appointing a pension, the Pension Fund analyzes data from the personalized accounting system. The main focus is on insurance service starting from July 1, 2000. However, citizens have the opportunity to improve their indicators if they can documentally confirm income for any 60 months of work before June 30, 2000. This is an important nuance for those whose professional activity began long ago.

The average wage indicator is reviewed monthly, as provided by the Law "On Mandatory State Pension Insurance." Thus, the growth of this indicator is not just statistics, but a real mechanism that gradually increases the base for calculating pensions for new retirees.

Looking to the Future: New Requirements for Service

In addition to the growth of indicators, the pension system awaits other changes. It is already known that in 2026, requirements for retirement will become stricter. To retire at the age of 60, it will be necessary to have at least 33 years of service. If this is lacking, the retirement age will be automatically shifted to 63 or 65 years. Therefore, it is important not only to monitor the growth of the average wage but also to carefully check your insurance service now.
