A major reshuffle is brewing within the Ukrainian political establishment. In the second half of the current week, the Verkhovna Rada may approve a new head of government. According to sources, the key vote is scheduled for Thursday, July 16.

Scenario for the change of power

According to data obtained from the publication's sources, the date of the vote has been preliminarily agreed upon at the conciliation council. People's Deputy Olga Vasilevskaya-Smaglyuk confirmed this information in her Telegram channel. She clarified that the parliamentary schedule for this week looks as follows: on Tuesday, July 14, deputies will consider issues of extending martial law and mobilization, as well as vote on the resignation of the current Cabinet of Ministers.

Already on Thursday, July 16, the procedure for appointing a new government is expected. This will be the logical conclusion of the process of reforming the executive branch initiated by the president.

Who will take the Prime Minister's seat?

The initiator of the changes is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On July 12, he announced his proposal for the current Prime Minister, Yulia Sviridenko, to take a new position. The head of state noted that she should head an important direction in relations with a key partner, however, to implement further plans, it is necessary to update the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to RBC-Ukraine sources, the favorite for the post of Prime Minister is the head of the company "Naftogaz", Serhiy Kretsky. The publication's interlocutors call him the only candidate for this position.

Structural changes in the government

The new composition of the government may undergo not only a change of leader, but also structural changes. In particular, the division of the position of Vice Prime Minister, Minister for Development of Communities and Territories into two separate positions is expected. This should increase the efficiency of managing regions and social issues.

In addition, sources report possible rotations in the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs. The full map of new appointments and details of the team formation will be revealed in the near future.
