Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin's reaction to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's proposal to "freeze" the military conflict in Ukraine. According to the official Kremlin representative, Russia is ready to stop hostilities as early as today — but only on the condition that certain requirements are met.
During a meeting with the Kazakh leader, Putin discussed in detail the current situation on the front lines and the progress of the special military operation. As Peskov noted, the conversation was thorough and covered key aspects of the unfolding events.
Condition for a ceasefire
Responding to a question about the possibility of "freezing" the conflict, Peskov emphasized: "This is impossible until Russia achieves its goals". He added that a decision could be made within 24 hours — if the Kyiv leadership takes appropriate steps.
"The main condition for Russia is to achieve its goals. Everything could stop today by the end of the day if the Kyiv regime makes the corresponding decisions," Peskov stated.
Moscow's position remains unchanged
Thus, Moscow does not rule out a rapid conclusion of the active phase of the conflict, but only on the condition that Ukraine agrees to terms deemed acceptable by the Russian side. At the same time, Peskov did not disclose any specific details of these conditions.
Tokayev's earlier proposal became the basis for a new round of negotiations and public statements. However, as Peskov's words suggest, Moscow is not ready to make compromises without achieving strategic objectives.
