In an interview with the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov once again raised the topic of nuclear deterrence and the prospects of a global conflict. In his conversation with journalists, the Kremlin representative outlined the conditions under which Russia is ready to use weapons of mass destruction, as well as commented on the current situation at the front and the initiatives of the Ukrainian side.
Threat of nuclear escalation
According to Peskov, Russia considers the use of nuclear weapons exclusively as a retaliatory measure in the event of a direct threat to the existence of the state. At the same time, the press secretary emphasized that Moscow is allegedly capable of achieving its strategic goals on the battlefield without resorting to nuclear escalation. He also noted that Russia is "very responsible" and does not seek to unleash a Third World War, but always responds to strikes during any conflicts.
"Victorious SMO" and the role of the West
During the conversation, Peskov spoke again about the so-called "victorious special military operation" in Ukraine, asserting that it was a forced reaction to "threats from the West." He also stated that initially the operation was planned as limited, but due to the intervention of Western countries, it turned into a full-fledged war.
Four pieces of advice for Europe
Peskov gave four pieces of advice to European countries, although in the original text they were not detailed. Nevertheless, the very fact of their announcement indicates an attempt by the Kremlin to influence the position of the West regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
Comment on Konstantinovka
Separately, Peskov commented on the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to hold negotiations in Konstantinovka in the Donetsk region. The Russian President's press secretary stated that this city has "come under the control" of Russian occupiers, which contradicts the official data of the Ukrainian side and international assessments.
