Press Secretary to the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov voiced the Kremlin's position regarding the current phase of the conflict in Ukraine. In a conversation with Russian propagandist Pavel Zarubin, the official Kremlin representative stated that Moscow is ready to wait for new proposals from the US on settling the war, but blamed Kyiv's European partners for dragging out the process.
Willingness to continue hostilities
Despite the rhetoric about a possible peace, Peskov emphasized that Russia intends to continue hostilities until achieving a complete victory. According to him, the military path is undesirable but forced, given the lack of real prospects for a peaceful settlement at the moment.
"Yes, (hostilities) are not a desired path, but given the lack of prospects for peace, we will take it to the end, to a complete victory. However, we will wait for new (American) proposals," the Kremlin spokesman said.
The role of Donald Trump and Moscow's position
A key element of Moscow's position is the assertion that Donald Trump is allegedly "sincerely inclined" to end the war. Peskov noted that the American side, including the president and his negotiators, sought to formulate options acceptable to all participants in the conflict.
According to Kremlin logic, the plan proposed by the US was accepted by the Russian side but rejected by Ukraine. "We accepted the option they proposed, but the Ukrainians rejected it," Peskov said.
Blame for the collapse of negotiations placed on Europe
The comment included an accusation against European countries. Peskov stated that the Americans were unable to convince the Ukrainian delegation, which, according to him, was "incited by Europeans." Thus, responsibility for the collapse of the peace process is shifted to Kyiv and its Western allies.
Context of 2026 negotiations
According to the provided information, the last trilateral peace talks involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia took place in February 2026. Since the beginning of this year, three rounds of such meetings have been held.
First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Kislitsa confirmed that two meetings took place in Abu Dhabi, and another one in Geneva. All of them were full-fledged trilateral negotiations with the participation of the American side.
