Critical moment in the conflict
The war in Ukraine has entered a phase that experts and politicians call decisive. It is precisely during this period, according to Western partners, that it is critically important not to slow down the pace of support for Kyiv. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius made this statement in an interview with the magazine Spiegel.
The head of the German ministry emphasized that the current situation requires allies to concentrate resources to the maximum. "The war in Ukraine has entered a potentially decisive phase, and we must take advantage of this moment," Pistorius noted. According to him, Ukraine currently has an urgent need for funding to organize and expand weapons production.
Financial support and contracts
Boris Pistorius categorically ruled out the possibility of slowing down the pace of fund allocation to Kyiv. As confirmation of Berlin's determination, he recalled the allocation of 300 million euros. These funds are intended to support the Czech initiative to purchase and subsequently supply ammunition for the Ukrainian armed forces.
In addition to state aid, the private sector is also becoming active. The German defense giant Rheinmetall has signed a contract with Ukraine for the supply of artillery shells. The deal is worth tens of millions of euros. According to the agreements reached, the fulfillment of this large order is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
Problems with Ukrainian production
In the context of the need to increase its own capacities, the Ukrainian defense industry (military-industrial complex) is gradually increasing the level of production localization. However, as reported earlier, the process is not without difficulties.
Enterprises still depend significantly on imported components. Some critically important components remain in short supply, creating certain risks for the uninterrupted operation of factories. This is why, according to Pistorius, external financing and supplies remain vital for the continuation of the fight.
