In November, at least 1,500 service members from the UK, France, Germany, and Poland will arrive in Poland to practice a scenario involving the deployment of European forces to Ukraine following a potential ceasefire. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing British outlets The Times and Daily Mail. The exercises are positioned as a preparatory step for a potential post-war contingent rather than a confirmed decision to dispatch troops immediately.
Scale and Objectives of the Maneuvers
At least 1,500 military personnel are planned to be involved in the maneuvers. During the exercises, they will practice troop movements and the delivery of necessary supplies, including fuel and provisions. Thus, European commands are testing the logistical chains that would be required for the actual deployment of a contingent on Ukrainian territory.
The Goal: Deterrence and Preparedness
The main objective of the exercises is to prepare European nations for the potential deployment of a military contingent in Ukraine after hostilities cease. Under this scenario, foreign forces are intended to serve as an element of deterrence against Russia. Therefore, the maneuvers are aimed not at escalation, but at demonstrating readiness and creating conditions for long-term security.
Confirmation from London
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting confirmed that thousands of troops will take part in large-scale exercises in Poland next month. According to him, they should help prepare for military support and the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. London's statement establishes that preparations are underway at the defense department level, rather than solely through political declarations.
A Scenario, Not a Decision
At the same time, it is important to emphasize that this concerns practicing a potential scenario in the event of a ceasefire, rather than a confirmed decision on the immediate dispatch of troops to Ukraine. In other words, the exercises model one of the possible courses of events, but do not mean that such a decision has already been made and will be implemented in the foreseeable future.
Context: Parallel Exercises and the "Coalition of the Willing"
Recall that on October 12–16, Russia and its allies held military exercises in Belarus, which also involved the armies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that joint large-scale military exercises of the "Coalition of the Willing" would take place in October–November 2026. Thus, the Polish maneuvers fit into a broader preparation cycle conducted by Western countries in parallel with the Russian bloc's exercises in Eastern Europe.
