Warsaw is offering to become a key partner in the implementation of an ambitious project to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems. Magdalena Sobczyk-Czernecka, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, officially announced the country's intention to organize trilateral cooperation with the United States and Ukraine.
Initiative after the NATO summit
The idea of creating a production site on Ukrainian territory was voiced by US President Donald Trump during the NATO summit in Ankara. Sobczyk-Czernecka confirmed that the American side is interested in linking production to Ukraine, however, Warsaw sees this as a task requiring additional security guarantees.
On July 23, the Polish official met with representatives of the Pentagon and the US Department of State. During the negotiations, it was proposed that the plant be built with the participation of three countries: the United States, Ukraine, and Poland. According to Sobczyk-Czernecka, this format is designed to "ensure production in a safe location" and reduce Washington's anxiety regarding logistics and asset protection.
Geographic factor and negotiations
The Polish side is convinced that the White House will make a positive decision, considering Warsaw's advantageous geographic and geopolitical position. Currently, active consultations on the details of implementing the project are continuing between Kyiv, Washington, and Warsaw.
Technological context and timelines
This initiative fits into the broader context of Ukrainian-American military partnership. It was previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed joint production of Patriot missiles with the leadership of Raytheon. Missile interceptor manufacturers are in the early stages of determining construction sites in Ukraine.
Optimistic forecasts indicate that Ukrainian specialists could begin producing missiles for key air defense systems as early as 2026. Including Poland in this process could accelerate the implementation of technologies and provide the necessary infrastructure for the safe operation of the enterprise.
