The head of Poland's Foreign Ministry, Radosław Sikorski, in an interview with the publication Fakt, urged his compatriots to prepare for a possible Russian attack, recommending that they stock up on food, pack an evacuation backpack, and identify a shelter location near their homes in advance. According to the minister, Polish citizens have already received the relevant safety instructions from the state, and they should "pay attention to the recommendations" and "be ready".
The minister's personal preparations: rice, jam and a hand pump
Sikorski described in detail how he himself prepared for the potential threat. He said that he had stocked up on rice, made jam from his own fruit, found out the exact location of the nearest shelter, and also acquired a hand pump for water. "Everyone should also know how to apply a bandage. This will come in handy even in peacetime," the minister emphasized, adding that basic first-aid skills remain relevant regardless of the geopolitical situation.
Hybrid threats and an attempt to split NATO
In the interview, Sikorski pointed to the intensification of hybrid threats from Russia, which, in his words, are aimed at "blurring the line between individual incidents and hybrid war, in order to make life harder for NATO countries." The minister noted that Moscow is counting on the splitting of the North Atlantic Alliance, however, in a crisis situation, member states are capable of uniting effectively enough. At the same time, he acknowledged that only Vladimir Putin can know whether there will be an armed conflict between Russia and one of the alliance's countries in the near future.
"Back then, the Russians were also saying: no, we have no evil intentions"
Sikorski drew a direct parallel between the current situation and the period before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. "I do not want to exaggerate, but back then the Russians were also saying: 'No, no, we have no evil intentions,' and our sources in the Alliance are telling us that they are planning something bad," he stated. According to him, NATO is telling Russia directly that it will not succeed, "just as it failed to take Kyiv in three days".
Earlier: warnings of a military response and reaction to Kremlin threats
It is worth recalling that earlier Sikorski had directly warned the Russian side of a possible military response in the event of aggression, pointing out that NATO has more combat aircraft and the Alliance is capable of responding both in defense and on the offensive. In addition, the minister had already reacted to the Kremlin's public threats to destroy Poland "in 2–3 days": in his assessment, Russia would have a significant tactical advantage in the event of a direct conflict with Warsaw, however, it is unlikely that Moscow would be able to realize this advantage in practice.
