On the eve of the large-scale Ukraine Reconstruction Conference to be held in Gdańsk, a new diplomatic scandal has erupted. The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, has not received an invitation to the event. The reason for this decision, as it turned out, is the tense internal political situation in Warsaw and sharp disagreements between the two countries.

This was stated by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tikhyy, during a televised marathon. According to him, the conflict between Kyiv and Warsaw has created an extremely negative background, which made it impossible for the Polish leader to participate in the discussion about the future of Ukraine.

Political Calculation and the Role of the Prime Minister

The situation surrounding the invitation has deep roots. Georgiy Tikhyy noted that Nawrocki himself complained to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about not being invited to such a significant event. However, according to the Ukrainian side, this is not a coincidence, but a consequence of the current political struggle in Poland.

"This event belongs to Prime Minister Donald Tusk. That is, once again, we see this political component that currently exists in Poland," emphasized the MFA spokesperson. Thus, the decision regarding Nawrocki's participation has become a hostage of Warsaw's internal politics, where relations between the president and the prime minister remain complicated.

Shift in Focus: From Credits to Security

The conference in Gdańsk, scheduled for June 25–26, will differ from previous events. This year, the focus is shifting from financing issues to issues of national security and defense.

According to Georgiy Tikhyy's statement, the discussion will not be simply about allocating money and credits to restore destroyed infrastructure. The main topic will be the strategy for protecting Ukraine. The logic of the organizers is simple: the more effectively the country's security is ensured, the fewer objects will need to be restored in the future.

Reason for Escalation: Dispute over UPA Heroes

Tensions in relations between Kyiv and Warsaw have reached a peak against the backdrop of historical disagreements. The cause of the sharp conflict was President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decision to award one of the Special Operations Forces units the honorary title "Heroes of the UPA" (Ukrainian Insurgent Army).

Polish authorities reacted extremely sharply to this. Last week, the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, took the Order of the White Eagle away from Zelenskyy, which became an unprecedented step in diplomatic history. In response, the Ukrainian leader stated that the actions of his Polish colleague are aimed at gaining political advantage before the elections, which will take place in Poland in the autumn of 2027.
