Ukraine is facing a double blow to its power grid: on the night of July 6, Russian forces launched a massive drone and missile attack on civilian energy infrastructure, while weather conditions exacerbated the situation. As a result, new power outages have been recorded in six regions — Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
Energy workers have already begun emergency restoration work, but they are operating only where security conditions allow. In Sumy Oblast, due to bad weather, 58 settlements are fully or partially without electricity. A similar situation has arisen in Poltava Oblast: the head of the Regional Military Administration reported that emergency outages have been introduced due to weather conditions. Twenty-seven settlements in the Lohvytsia, Hadiach, Zinkiv, and Semeniivka hromadas — about three thousand consumers — are without power. Repair crews are already restoring damaged power lines.
Despite problems in the grid, electricity consumption in Ukraine is decreasing. As of July 6, it was almost 14% lower compared to the previous working day. “Ukrenergo” explains this trend by a significant drop in air temperature: due to the cooling, Ukrainians are using air conditioners less frequently.
Nevertheless, energy workers are urging citizens to consume electricity as economically as possible during evening hours — from 16:00 to 23:00. The situation in the power grid can change very quickly. For up-to-date information, you can follow the websites and official social media pages of the distribution system operators (oblenergo).
Residents of Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast can check information using the online resources of the company YASNO. While previously the most outages were recorded in Sumy Oblast, the most difficult situation is now in Donetsk Oblast. The energy infrastructure there is regularly damaged as a result of enemy attacks.
