On Wednesday, July 8, residents of the Chernihiv and Odesa regions will face power outages. In one region, the cause will be natural forces, while in the other, it will be scheduled maintenance work.
Storm in Chernihiv region
In the Chernihiv region, meteorologists forecast wind speeds increasing to 15–20 m/s and thunderstorms. "Chernihivoblenergo" has warned of possible interruptions in electricity supply. According to the company, emergency crews are on 24-hour standby to promptly address the aftermath of the bad weather.
Scheduled outages in Odesa
In the Odesa region, the reason for the outages is different. DTEK "Odesa Power Grids" reported that due to maintenance work, power will be cut off in parts of the Prymorskyi and Peresypskyi districts of the city. Outages are scheduled from 08:00 to 19:00.
Safety rules during a storm
When a storm warning is issued, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions of the State Emergency Service (SES), police, and other official authorities. Experts recommend staying away from power lines, trees, and advertising structures that may fall during strong gusts of wind.
A broken power line poses a particular danger. It is strictly forbidden to touch it or attempt to repair the damage yourself. Approaching the wire closer than 8 meters is life-threatening.
If a person finds themselves in the zone of step voltage (within an 8-meter radius of a broken wire), they must exit it by taking small steps, without lifting their feet off the ground or spreading them wide apart.
Weather changes in Ukraine
Currently, an active atmospheric front is moving across the country from Western Europe. Meteorologists are warning of a number of dangerous weather phenomena. After this front passes, cooler air will enter Ukraine. Specialists from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center have already published a preliminary forecast for the second half of summer, having analyzed the climatic indicators for July.
