Well-known Ukrainian striker Pylyp Budkivskyi, who has now turned 34 years old, has traveled a long and challenging path in professional football. Being a native of Kyiv, he dreamed from childhood of playing for capital powerhouse Dynamo, but fate had other plans, and he became a graduate of the Shakhtar Donetsk academy. Over the years of his career, the forward has managed to change many clubs, play abroad in Belgium and France, and now once again leads Luhansk-based Zorya as captain, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and dedication to the game at the highest level.
The journey from a Kyiv dream to the Shakhtar academy
In an interview, the footballer openly recalled his youth years and the moment of his transition to the Donetsk club. At the age of 14, after a successful performance for the Otradny team in the final stage of the Youth Football League, where Dynamo Kyiv showed no interest in him, the talented player was spotted by scouts of the Pitmen. Assistant academy director Patrick van Leeuwen played a key role in ensuring that young Pylyp remained in the club's structure. Initially, moving to Donetsk was perceived as an exciting adventure, but the reality of independent living in a dormitory without parents turned out to be a serious test for a teenager.
Professional experience, injuries, and the European stage
Throughout his rich career history, Budkivskyi has defended the colors of such clubs as Mariupol, Sevastopol, Zorya, Desna, and Polissya, and has also been called up to the national team of Ukraine. His biography is also marked by legionnaire experience: the forward tried his hand at Belgian Kortrijk and French Sochaux, where he shared the pitch with future Chelsea and France national team star Maxence Lacroix. These stages hardened the striker's character and allowed him to adopt advanced European training and recovery experience.
Contradictory data
While official statistics and the player's career milestones are confirmed by reputable sports sources, some experts and fans still diverge in assessing the reasons for the forward's decreased scoring efficiency in the current UPL season. The player himself attributes this to tactical factors and a lack of goal-scoring chances, while sports analysts point to the increasing physical load on veterans of the Ukrainian championship and the complex psychological conditions of playing amidst the war.
Family, a difficult winter decision, and future plans
In winter, the experienced forward faced a serious choice: an attractive offer came in to move to one of the clubs in Kazakhstan. However, the top priority for Pylyp remained his family—children, school, and the familiar way of life in Ukraine. Despite the hardships of wartime and constant dangers, he decided to stay with Zorya. Budkivskyi admits that although modern realities force children to hide from explosions, he does not regret his choice and is determined to bring maximum benefit to the Luhansk club, overcoming any sporting and life obstacles.
