The summer vacation season has led to a sharp surge in passenger traffic at the Ukrainian border. According to the State Border Guard Service, in June the number of people leaving the country increased by 200,000. Amidst the growing traffic, the agency's spokesperson, Andriy Demchenko, gave recommendations to tourists on how to avoid hours of waiting in the heat.
The rule of weekdays and morning hours
The main advice from the border guards is simple: plan your trip carefully. SBGS officer Andriy Demchenko, during a briefing for journalists, emphasized that the load at border crossing points is uneven. The best time to cross the border is the morning hours on weekdays.
"It is better to choose morning hours on weekdays to cross the border and, if possible, avoid crossing the border on weekends," Demchenko noted. It is on Saturdays and Sundays that passenger traffic increases significantly, creating jams that can be avoided by choosing a weekday.
Critical points: Poland and Romania
The situation on some routes remains tense. Border guards pay special attention to the Ukrainian-Polish border. Here, waiting times for passenger buses sometimes reach critical levels of 8–12 hours.
Significant queues are also observed at the Romanian ferry crossing point "Isaccea". Traffic has accumulated in both directions — both for entry and exit from Romania.
What to expect in August
Border guards are already preparing for a new wave of passengers expected at the end of summer. In August, the reverse process is forecasted — the mass return of citizens home. This will lead to a significant increase in the load on border crossing points when entering Ukraine.
To minimize inconvenience, officers advise checking the traffic load at border crossing points in advance on the agency's official resources. Following these recommendations will help travelers save time and avoid long waits.
