On the frontline, every minute of delay in evacuating a wounded soldier can be fatal. For the 1st Separate Medical Battalion, operating in the hottest spots, the issue of mobility has ceased to be just a logistical task — it has become a matter of life and death. Medics are looking for a reliable compact SUV capable of getting through where heavy machinery cannot.
The Logistics of Rescue: Why a New Vehicle is Needed
The head of this unit's staff is a surgeon with the callsign "Mountain" (Alexey). Since February 2022, he has personally participated in saving soldiers at stabilization points and in frontline hospitals. Currently, his responsibility has increased: he coordinates the work of the entire battalion and is responsible for logistics.
According to the medics, the unit's existing equipment no longer corresponds to the realities of modern warfare. The vehicle is too bulky, making it an easy target for enemy drones. Furthermore, the high fuel consumption — more than 20 liters per 100 kilometers — creates serious problems with fuel supply under conditions of resource scarcity on the front.
The Ideal Option: Suzuki Jimny
The medical team has identified a specific model that is ideally suited for combat conditions: the Suzuki Jimny. This compact SUV has high off-road capability, is inconspicuous, and is economical to operate. These characteristics are critically important for the operational coordination of units and the rapid evacuation of the wounded from under fire.
To purchase the car, it is necessary to collect 500,000 hryvnias. The fundraising was initiated by Alexey's wife, Natalia, who is officially registered in the State Register of Volunteers. To guarantee the transparency of the process, the car will be registered through a charitable foundation and handed over directly to the medical battalion.
"Our goal is to provide medics with transport that will allow them to reach the wounded in time. Every hryvnia today is a chance to save a soldier's life," the volunteers emphasize.
Context: New Priorities in Saving Lives
The request for mobile equipment fits into the general strategy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to increase the survivability of personnel. Recently, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that the main priorities are ground robotic complexes, protected underground stabilization points, and full digitalization of evacuation processes. However, even the most modern technologies require reliable physical delivery, which currently can only be ensured by proven vehicles.
