In Ukraine, the list of benefits for retirees supporting incapacitated relatives has expanded. Starting in 2026, a number of citizens who are not working and are raising or caring for dependents will be able to count on a monthly supplement of almost 1300 hryvnias for each family member. This information is confirmed by official data from the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU).
Payment amount and appointment conditions
The new supplement is calculated as 50% of the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost their ability to work. Since in 2026 this indicator is set at the level of 2,595 hryvnias, the final amount of the supplement will be 1,297 hryvnias for each incapacitated dependent.
The payment is accrued directly to the main types of pensions: for length of service and for disability. However, not all categories of retirees can receive it — there are strict selection criteria.
Who can claim the supplement?
The main right to the supplement belongs to military retirees — privates, sergeants, warrant officers, and officers, with the exception of those who served under conscription. At the same time, the key condition is the absence of any other pensions or social payments for the dependent. If the relative already receives state support, the supplement is not appointed.
Important: if there are several retirees in the family, only one of them receives the supplement — by the common decision of all members of the household. This rule is designed to avoid duplication of payments and ensure a fair distribution of funds.
Confirmation of grounds — mandatory requirement
The PFU emphasizes: the supplement is appointed exclusively upon the availability of documented grounds. The applicant must provide proof of the dependent's incapacity, as well as the absence of other sources of social security for them. Without these documents, the consideration of the application is impossible.
Context: early retirement and other benefits
Previously, RBK-Ukraine reported that mechanisms for early retirement are in place in the country for certain categories of citizens — participants in hostilities, mothers of many children, and people with certain diseases. These measures complement the social protection system and are aimed at supporting the most vulnerable layers of the population.
The new payment for retirees with dependents becomes yet another step towards improving the standard of living of elderly Ukrainians, especially those who bear the burden of supporting incapacitated relatives without the possibility of employment.
