Starting Monday, June 29, Kyiv drivers will face changes in traffic organization on one of the capital's key highways. In the Desnyanskyi district, traffic on Roman Shukhevych Avenue will be partially restricted. The restrictions will last for a full month, so residents and guests of the city will have to adjust their routes in advance.
Reason for restrictions: major repairs
The decision to restrict traffic was made by the Kyiv City State Administration (KCCA) jointly with the municipal corporation "Kyivavtodor". The main reason for the changes is the start of repair work on the asphalt concrete surface of the avenue. Specialists from the Road Operation Department (ROD) for the repair and maintenance of roads in the Desnyanskyi district have begun restoring the road surface.
The press service of "Kyivavtodor" clarified that the closure will be lane-based. This means that traffic will not stop completely, but will be narrowed on certain sections depending on the stage of the work.
Strategic importance of the highway
Roman Shukhevych Avenue (formerly known as General Vatutin Avenue) is one of the most important transport arteries connecting the Dniprovskyi and Desnyanskyi districts. The highway runs through the "Chertoryi" area and serves as a link for large residential areas: Vyhorivshchyna, Troieshchyna, Raduzhne, and Kybalchyk.
Geographically, the avenue stretches from the Northern Bridge to the intersection with Ronald Reagan Street, Heroes of Energy Street, and Bratislava Street. Honore de Balzac Street, Petro Vershyhora Street, Raduzhna Street, as well as Krasna Kalyna Avenue and Voskresenskyi Avenue branch off from it. In addition, the road leads to Kerch Square and Mykola Kybalchyk Street.
In addition to its local significance, the avenue is an important part of Kyiv's Small Ring Road. This section records a very high level of car traffic, so any road works inevitably affect the overall traffic situation in the city.
Context of road works in the capital
The repairs on Roman Shukhevych Avenue fit into the general plan of road works implemented by "Kyivavtodor" this year. Earlier, there were reports of a partial closure of the Southern Bridge for five months, as well as traffic restrictions for pedestrians on the Beresteyskyi Avenue Bridge, which will last until autumn. Drivers should be attentive and follow updates from city services to avoid congestion.
