The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed that its embassy building in Kyiv was damaged during a large-scale attack carried out by Russian military forces. The strike hit in immediate proximity to the diplomatic mission, causing significant damage to window structures and the facade.
Consequences of the strike and diplomatic reaction
According to an official statement from the ministry, published on the social network X, the incident occurred during nighttime rocket shelling of the Ukrainian capital. Rockets landed just a few meters from the embassy building. Despite the proximity of the explosion, no staff members of the diplomatic mission were injured.
In response to the incident, Vilnius has initiated a diplomatic procedure: today, a representative of Russia will be summoned to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The purpose of the meeting will be to demand official explanations regarding the violation of diplomatic security and the damage inflicted on the property of a foreign state.
Call for strengthened sanctions
Lithuanian diplomats emphasized that Russia's campaign of terror against Ukraine continues without any restrictions. The statement notes a lack of any real signs of the Kremlin's desire for peace or to enter into negotiations.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summarized that Moscow's strategic objectives remain the same — the destruction of infrastructure, loss of life, and the intimidation of the population. In this regard, Vilnius has called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia by introducing stricter sanctions and intensifying support for Ukraine.
