Russia has officially presented a comprehensive cooperation proposal to the Indian Ministry of Defense in the field of military aviation production. At the heart of the initiative is the joint development of engines for India’s next-generation fifth-generation fighter, the AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft).

Technological foundation from 'Product 30'

To provide the technological basis for potential partnership, Russian experts have proposed leveraging solutions developed during the design of the AL-51F1 engine of the latest generation. This powerplant, also known as 'Product 30', was created as a standard component for Russia’s multirole stealth fighter, the Su-57.

Transfer of expertise instead of ready-made engines

A key feature of the proposed model is the complete exclusion of the standard military-technical cooperation scheme. At Russia’s request, the parties will not supply ready-made engines. Instead, Moscow is prepared to transfer accumulated experience and technical solutions that will assist India in developing its own engines for its future domestic fifth-generation fighter.

Accelerating the AMCA program

This move is expected to significantly accelerate the implementation of India’s ambitious AMCA program. Previously, the South Asian nation faced serious difficulties in developing its own powerful aviation engines, which slowed down the pace of creating the new fighter.

Strategy for technological independence

Currently, representatives of India’s defense ministry are reviewing Russian proposals as part of the country’s strategy to achieve technological independence. This partnership could become an important stage in the development of India’s defense industry and strengthen its position in the global arms market.
