On Saturday morning, at around 9:00 AM, a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle struck a shopping center located in the central part of Sumy. According to RBK-Ukraine, this was reported by Serhii Kryvosheienko, the head of the Sumy City Military Administration. He stated that the attack was carried out by a drone preliminarily identified as a Molniya type. The drone hit the shopping center building right in the heart of the city.

Consequences of the Strike on the Shopping Center

According to preliminary data, two people were injured as a result of the drone strike. Their personal details and health status were being verified at the time of publication. The full consequences of the strike — the extent of damage to the building and infrastructure — were also being established. Authorities emphasized that the information regarding casualties is preliminary and may be adjusted as data from the scene comes in.

Nighttime Drone Attack on Western Regions

The strike on Sumy was part of a larger-scale nighttime wave of Russian drone attacks targeting western Ukraine. Specifically, Lutsk and Kovel were left without electricity, while seven people were reportedly injured in Rivne. In the morning in Lviv, amid an air raid alert, explosions rang out. Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi reported that air defense forces shot down an enemy drone on its approach to the city.

Data Verification and Official Response

Regional officials continue to gather information on the aftermath of the morning strike on Sumy. The type of drone, the nature of the damage to the shopping center, and the exact number of casualties remained subject to clarification at the time of publication. As with the nighttime attacks on the western regions, authorities urged residents to comply with safety rules during air raid alerts.

Context: Previous Strikes on Central Sumy

The central part of Sumy has previously been targeted. In particular, on September 26, Russian forces launched airstrikes on the city center, which, according to local authorities, killed two people and injured six, including a young child. The morning drone strike on the shopping center is a separate incident, and its consequences are being evaluated independently of previous attacks.
