Law enforcement agencies of Ukraine have conducted a large-scale and swift special operation in the Kharkiv region, resulting in the detention of a citizen of the Russian Federation. The man is suspected of committing a particularly grave crime — the mass murder of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as a civilian. The incident caused a wide resonance and required the mobilization of all law enforcement agencies in the region to quickly neutralize the dangerous criminal.
Chronology of tragic events and the essence of the crime
The tragedy unfolded on October 13 in the Kharkiv district. According to the investigation, the armed attacker illegally broke into a private residential building where fighters of the 72nd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were temporarily stationed and resting. Acting suddenly and aggressively, the attacker opened fire to kill with firearms, resulting in the deaths of five Ukrainian servicemen. After committing the brutal shooting, the criminal dropped his weapon at the scene and tried to escape on foot, heading towards Kharkiv in the hope of getting lost in the urban development.
Search operation and detention of the suspect
Thanks to the coordinated and lightning-fast actions of law enforcement officers, the search operation took less than a day. Special forces fighters, professional criminal analysts, investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine, prosecutors, the National Guard, and the Military Law Enforcement Service participated in the search and detention of the attacker. During the operational measures, the identity of the suspect was established: he turned out to be a 36-year-old native of St. Petersburg, who is an active serviceman of the 2nd battalion of the 1009th motorized rifle regiment of the Russian army.
Investigation versions and additional episodes
According to preliminary conclusions of the investigative bodies, the detainee could have acted as part of a sabotage and reconnaissance group (SRG). For camouflage and unhindered movement through the territory of the region, he changed into civilian clothes. In addition, another terrible episode surfaced during the investigation: moving through the Tsyrkuny community on the way to Kharkiv, the attacker coldly shot a local resident who was fishing near a reservoir. According to the investigation, the murder of the civilian was committed solely out of fear of being exposed. Investigative actions are currently underway, procedural supervision is carried out by the prosecutor's office, and further investigation is conducted by the SBU.
