Samsung has officially begun the massive rollout of the One UI 8.5 interface update for its Galaxy smartphone lineup. This is not just a routine update, but a significant step in the development of the ecosystem, bringing substantial improvements in security, new tools for family use, and advanced features based on generative artificial intelligence.

The firmware launch began on May 6, and from May 11, the update became globally available for most compatible devices. The latest flagships—Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra—were the first to receive the novelty, but the list of supported models is much broader.

Who Gets the Update: Full List of Devices

It is officially confirmed that the update is already rolling out or will be available soon for the following smartphones:

  • S Series: Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25 FE, as well as the entire Galaxy S24 and S23 lineup (including FE versions).
  • Foldable Smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, the new Galaxy Z TriFold, as well as models from the Z Fold 6/Flip 6, Z Fold 5/Flip 5 series, and the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
  • A Series: Galaxy A56, A55, A54, A36, A35, A34, A26, A25, A17, A16, and A15.

Additionally, there is hope for updates for Galaxy A24, A06 models, a range of Galaxy F and M series devices (models 56, 55, 16, 15, 06), as well as rugged smartphones XCover 7 and XCover 7 Pro, although there are no official confirmations yet.

What's New in One UI 8.5?

The main feature of this update is the transfer of functions previously available only in the flagship Galaxy S26 series to devices from previous years, down to the Galaxy S23 series models. This means your older smartphones will get technologies that were previously the privilege of new releases.

One of the key features is the updated Call Screening system. Now, the built-in AI can automatically answer calls from unknown numbers, clarify the purpose of the call, and display a text transcription of the conversation as a brief summary on the user's screen. This allows you not to miss important calls while not getting distracted from your tasks.

Technical Details and Compatibility

The One UI 8.5 project is based on the Android QPR2 version, while the previous One UI 8.0 was based on Android 16. Due to this technical difference, some smartphones supporting Android 16 may not receive the current 8.5 update.

To check your device's compatibility, the company recommends using the official Samsung Members app. To optimize system performance and ensure stability after installing the update, developers advise performing several simple actions that will help the smartphone run without glitches.
