The United States has announced a new wave of economic sanctions aimed directly at the political leadership of Cuba. The US Department of the Treasury has expanded the list of restrictions to include the country's current president, his immediate circle, and members of the Castro family. This move marks an escalation of pressure on the island, where the economic situation is already complex.

Target of the blow: family and regime support network

This time, US sanctions have hit the families of the communist regime's leaders. The list of updated restrictions turned out to be unexpectedly broad. Special attention was paid to the figure of Raul Castro. Although he no longer holds official state positions, he remains a key figure in determining the country's political future. Now, financial restrictions have affected his closest relatives.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned the international community of the severe consequences for those who attempt to circumvent these restrictions. According to him, the US is targeting the network that supports and finances Cuba's subversive and radical operations.

"Anyone who provides services to these sanctioned subjects is themselves at risk of sanctions. Foreign banks and other companies that provide services to these organizations must freeze this activity," Rubio stated.

Key structures under attack

The sanctions blockade has affected not only individuals but also important state institutions. The following have been placed under restrictions:

  • The Cuban Army;
  • The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples;
  • Amitur Cuba;
  • Committees for the Defense of the Revolution.

Blockade and military scenarios

While economic pressure is mounting, the US continues the naval blockade of the island. The internal situation in Cuba remains critical: the country is suffering from total blackouts and energy crises. In Washington, more radical steps are not ruled out. Work continues on studying military action scenarios, which will be presented to US President Donald Trump.

Havana's countermove

Cuban authorities are not willing to give in without resistance. Against the backdrop of growing tensions in relations with the US, Havana is taking steps to strengthen its defense capabilities. It was previously reported that Cuba had purchased drones to enhance its defensive capabilities. This indicates that the island is prepared for scenarios of conflict escalation.
