On June 23, 2026, the legendary Special Operations Center "Alpha" of the Security Service of Ukraine marks a significant date — its 32nd anniversary since its founding. Established in 1994 as an elite anti-terrorist unit, it is today one of the most effective formations within the country's Defense Forces.
Leaders in the ranking for destroying equipment and personnel
In the conditions of a full-scale war, the combat capabilities of "Alpha" have reached a new level. The unit consistently holds a position in the top three for destroying enemy personnel and Russian equipment using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Notably, for the last three months, "Alpha" has led this ranking.
Acting Head of the SBU, Major General Yevhen Khmara, confirmed the high effectiveness of the special forces' actions. According to him, the unit is responsible for up to 20% of all enemy infantry losses. "Russian uniforms regularly burn, and on the line of contact, the number of living occupiers is steadily decreasing, while their damaged equipment burns daily," the General stated.
Strategic strikes on the aggressor's rear areas
Special Operations Center fighters carry out combat missions on the most difficult fronts, operating at all levels: tactical, operational, and strategic. Their actions extend far beyond the front line, striking critically important objects deep within enemy territory.
One of the most striking examples was the recent successful attack on the Moscow Oil Refinery. This enterprise plays a key role in the region's economy, supplying a significant portion of the capital's fuel market. The plant provides key volumes of gasoline, over 50% of diesel fuel for the region, and fuels Moscow's airports.
Operation "Web" and massive losses for the Aerospace Forces
A special place in the unit's history is occupied by the participation of SOC operators in the legendary special operation "Web". Controlling drones, "Alpha" fighters dealt a crushing blow to the enemy's aviation group. As a result of the operation, 41 aircraft were hit, including strategic bombers Tu-95, Tu-22M3, Tu-160, and the A-50 electronic warfare aircraft. The total damage inflicted on Russian military infrastructure during this operation exceeds $7 billion.

The Special Operations Center continues to strengthen its capabilities and is actively recruiting new recruits.
