A new political conflict has erupted within the Polish establishment. The Chancellery of the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, has officially stated that the government's decision to declassify data regarding military aid to Ukraine is erroneous. According to representatives of the head of state, this information should remain classified.
The scandal unfolded against the backdrop of the Polish government's attempts to clarify the volume of military supplies Warsaw has sent to Kyiv following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. The initiative to declassify the data was voiced by the Minister of Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, but the reaction from the presidential administration was severe.
Distraction Tactics
The President of Poland's representative, Rafał Laszczyk, called the cabinet's actions irresponsible in an interview on the Polsat News channel. He is convinced that publishing data on aid is nothing more than an attempt to divert public attention from the coalition's internal problems.
"This is the wrong decision. This is non-public information that should not be disclosed," Laszczyk stated. The Chancellery spokesperson directly accused the Minister of Defense and Prime Minister Donald Tusk of using the topic of aid to Ukraine as a diversionary maneuver from scandals exposed by journalists.
According to Laszczyk, the goal of declassification is to make the public discuss the volume of donations for a few days instead of focusing on real problems within the ruling coalition.
Dispute over Patriot Missiles
The trigger for the discussion was information regarding the transfer of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems to Ukraine. The Deputy Marshal of the Sejm and leader of the "Confederation" party, Krzysztof Bosak, previously stated that the government secretly transferred these expensive munitions to Kyiv without the parliament's knowledge.
Bosak emphasized that these are the only missiles in the Polish army's arsenal capable of countering Russian "Iskander" missiles. In response to these accusations, the Presidential Chancellery reminded that the Ukrainian side had expressed gratitude for the transfer of these systems just two months ago.
Rafał Laszczyk believes that reviewing Kyiv's past statements is sufficient to understand that there is nothing to hide, yet he calls the very fact of publicly discussing the details of the deliveries unacceptable.
MFA Position: "Geopolitics for Fools"
The situation was also commented on by the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski. He severely criticized the emotional approach to geopolitical issues related to regional security.
"One unsuccessful decision by President Zelensky has not changed the fact that Putin is a threat to Ukraine, NATO, and Poland. Guiding oneself solely by emotions is geopolitics for fools," Sikorski stated. The minister emphasized that the threat from Russia remains relevant, and any political intrigues should not affect strategic partnership.
