In the midst of active combat, where every fortress and command post is crucial for defense, a shocking story has been uncovered in the Zhytomyr region. Instead of a reliable shelter for military personnel, which was supposed to be built with budget funds, local authorities ended up with a hole in the wall and a criminal case.

The Traitor Engineer and the Unfinished Construction

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) disrupted a corruption scheme that was damaging the defense budget. Under investigation came a woman holding a dual role: she was both a co-owner of a construction firm and an engineer for technical supervision. This concentration of power allowed her to act with impunity until her arrest.

Her task was to strictly control quality and deadlines. However, instead of supervision, she signed fake acts of completion, even though the facility was never actually finished. Moreover, the contractors working under her supervision used low-quality materials, rendering the building unsuitable for its defensive functions.

The Price of Betrayal

The damage caused by this "engineering" scheme is estimated at 2.7 million hryvnias. These are not just dry figures in a report — these are resources that could have been used to purchase real equipment or gear for fighters at the front. Engineering and technical expertise confirmed: the military facility is in a substandard condition and cannot ensure the safety of personnel.

The suspect has been informed of suspicion of official negligence. Law enforcement is now working to identify all accomplices in this scam to determine who was behind the supply of substandard materials and fake documents.

Part of the Bigger Picture

The case in the Zhytomyr region is just the tip of the iceberg. Recently, other large-scale schemes have been exposed: from thefts in food procurement for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where damages exceeded 71 million hryvnias, to the plundering of over 1 billion hryvnias through inflated contract prices. Each such case is a blow to the country's defense capability, requiring immediate and strict action.
