A large-scale update of the educational infrastructure is beginning in Ukrainian children's hospitals. A network of specialized centers operating according to the Israeli methodology is expanding, covering new regions of the country. This initiative aims to solve one of the most pressing problems for young patients — the loss of the educational process and socialization during prolonged treatment.
A system tested by time
The implementation of the new education model in Ukrainian medical institutions is being carried out with the support of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Ukraine. The key partner is the Israeli non-profit organization Sasa Setton, acting in conjunction with the Center for Jewish Impact (CJI).
As noted by the diplomatic mission, Ukraine is receiving a ready-made system that was developed in Israel over 15 years. This experience has already proven its effectiveness in working with children in stressful situations, after injuries, or during illness. The Sasa Setton organization works in close partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health, covering 41 hospitals in the country, including psychiatric and rehabilitation centers.
From Odesa to Chernivtsi and Bila Tserkva
The pilot project was launched in 2023 in Odesa. The first educational center is already helping young patients continue their studies and receive psychological support in a specially equipped environment on a daily basis. Now this practice is taking a new level.
This year, a new center is planned to open in Chernivtsi based on the regional clinical children's hospital. It is expected that the institution will serve the region where about 200,000 children live. The center will include:
- A modern classroom;
- A children's library;
- A creative space;
- Necessary technical equipment.
The third center is planned to be created in Bila Tserkva based on a local medical institution. There, too, an adapted Israeli work model will be implemented, taking into account the specifics of the hospital.
Exchange of experience and long-term partnership
The project goes beyond the mere creation of premises. It implies a deep transfer of competencies: training Ukrainian specialists, implementing Israeli methodologies, and developing long-term partnerships between hospitals in the two countries.
The Israeli Embassy confirmed that the possibility of opening three more such centers in other regions of Ukraine is being worked out. The main goal of the initiative is to ensure the continuity of education for children undergoing treatment by attracting qualified teachers and volunteers.
