Starting July 1, a large-scale plan for the mandatory evacuation of civilians comes into force in the Chernihiv region. Regional authorities have announced the start of a new wave of evacuations from border territories where a critical security threat persists. The decision was made by the Regional Defense Council and covers both new and previously evacuated settlements.
Scale of the operation and coverage of territories
According to the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration (RMA), the new wave will affect 12 border villages located in four communities of the region. Additionally, authorities have resumed evacuation measures for seven villages in the Snov, Horodnia, Novhorod-Siverskyi, and Semeniivka communities, where evacuation was previously declared during the winter period.
The situation in these areas remains difficult. Despite previous appeals, approximately one thousand people still remain in the settlements, including 120 children. Some residents left their homes in winter, while others filed official refusals to evacuate. Now, given the escalating situation, authorities are moving to compulsory measures to ensure citizen safety.
Logistics and social support
The RMA has assured that the process is organized at a high level. Evacuation routes and transport have already been approved, and the interaction algorithm for all services is fully tested. The local population is being additionally informed about specific assembly points to ensure an uninterrupted flow of people.
Authorities guarantee that all evacuees will be provided with places for temporary accommodation. The overall process of safely evacuating citizens is planned to be completed within two months. This will allow for the maximum speed in clearing dangerous zones of civilians.
Reason for escalation: strikes on infrastructure
The decision on the new wave of evacuation is dictated by regular enemy attacks on border and other settlements in the region. At the end of May, an enemy drone attacked a patrol car in Novhorod-Siverskyi, resulting in injuries to three police officers.
Occupiers continue to strike civilian infrastructure. In the village of Masheve, a local school was completely burned down as a result of a drone attack. Ballistic missiles pose a particular threat. Thus, as a result of a cluster strike on the city of Pryluky, the "Epicentr" shopping center was destroyed. Three people died in this tragedy, and the number of injured exceeded 20.
