On May 27, Ukrainian football lost one of its brightest representatives — former striker of Dnipro's 'Dnipro', Sergey Dumenko. He passed away at the age of 58. This was announced on Facebook by the well-known Ukrainian footballer Dmytro Moskalenko.
Dumenko's health began to deteriorate after suffering a heart attack in 2020. In recent years, he was confined to a wheelchair, but his contribution to the development of Ukrainian football will remain in the memory of fans forever.
Career on the Field
Sergey Dumenko went from amateur to professional, playing for teams such as 'Dnipro', 'Tavriya', 'Poligraftekhnika', 'Maccabi Kfar Saba', 'Metallurg' Mariupol, and 'Shakhtar' Pavlohrad. His career was filled with bright moments and achievements.
Along with 'Dnipro', Dumenko became vice-champion of Ukraine in the 1992/93 season and won bronze medals twice (1992, 1994/95). For his native club, he played 80 matches and scored 17 goals, leaving a bright mark in the team's history.
Even after ending his active career, Dumenko continued to be part of the football world. In 2013, he played for the 'Dnipro' veterans' team in the Ukrainian championship, proving that love for football has no age.
Memory of the Legend
The death of Sergey Dumenko is not only a personal tragedy for his family but also a loss for all of Ukrainian football. His name will forever remain in the history of 'Dnipro' and Ukrainian sports as a whole.
Recently, there was also news about the death of former Greek national team player Paraskevas Antzas. These events remind us of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.
