Ukraine has lost one of the key architects of its state structure. Serhei Osyka — a scientist, former People's Deputy of several convocations, and one of those who prepared the draft of the Constitution of Ukraine — has passed away.
Architect of the Ukrainian Constitution
The news of the politician's death was confirmed by the Verkhovna Rada's Telegram channel, as reported by RBC-Ukraine. Serhei Osyka played a decisive role in the formation of the country's legal framework. From 1994 to 1996, he was a member of the Constitutional Commission appointed by the President of Ukraine and personally prepared the text of the Basic Law for the historic vote in the parliamentary session hall.
Political career and scientific activity
Osyka's path in public service was long and eventful. In addition to fundamental scientific work, he held high government posts, including the position of Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine. During his political career, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada three times — he was a People's Deputy of the IV, V, and VI convocations.
During his parliamentary activities, the politician worked on several key areas influencing the development of legislation and public administration.
State awards and colleagues' memories
For his significant contribution to the development of the state, Serhei Osyka was awarded high honors: the Order of Merit, III class, and the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, V class.
The Verkhovna Rada expressed sincere condolences to the relatives, close ones, friends, and colleagues of the late former People's Deputy. Osyka's death is another loss for the generation of politicians who shaped post-Soviet Ukraine.
