Significant personnel changes are brewing in the Ukrainian political landscape. Several Members of Parliament have named the head of Naftogaz, Serhiy Koretskyi, as the main candidate for the position of Prime Minister as part of the renewal of the Cabinet of Ministers. This is confirmed by RBC-Ukraine sources close to the Office of the President.
Koretskyi — the main contender for the post of Prime Minister
According to several interlocutors of the publication, including representatives of the President's administration, it is Serhiy Koretskyi who is being considered as a replacement for Yulia Svyrydenko. One source stated directly: "Koretskyi is the candidate for this post and he has already given his consent".
It is worth noting that Koretskyi's name appeared on the list of possible candidates for the post of Head of Government earlier, however, until recently, he refused this role. Now, it seems, the situation has changed.
If Koretskyi heads the Cabinet of Ministers — it will be the third Prime Minister since 2022
In the event of his appointment, Serhiy Koretskyi will become the third Prime Minister of Ukraine during the period of the full-scale Russian invasion. His career in the energy sector is impressive: since 2022, he has headed Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta, turning the loss-making Ukrnafta into one of the most profitable companies in the country.
In the spring of 2025, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz. At the time of his appointment, the company faced almost empty storage facilities, but under his leadership, it successfully survived one of the most difficult winters in history.
Career before Naftogaz: from WOG to Idealist Coffee Co
Before entering the state energy sector, Koretskyi worked for more than 20 years in the Continuum Group of companies. In 2002, he headed the Western Oil and Gas Group, and in 2007 — the group's management company. Since 2013, he has headed the WOG gas station network.
In 2018, he ended his cooperation with Continuum Group and founded his own project — the coffee brand with a network of cafes Idealist Coffee Co. He left the company's beneficial owners in 2021.
Education and professional background
Serhiy Koretskyi received his education at two leading technical universities in Ukraine: at Lutsk State Technical University in the specialties of "Mechanical Engineering" and "Business Economics", and at Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University in the specialty of "Oil and Gas Production".
