May 29 will turn into a real test for the residents of Ukraine. Instead of the expected summer warmth, the country will be covered by a cold front bringing torrential rains and strong gusts of wind. Forecasters warn that the weather today will be capricious and severe, requiring citizens to exercise maximum caution.

Thermometers show a drop

The temperature background in the country will change sharply. During the day, the air will warm up only to +13...+17°C, which is a significant deviation for the end of May. At night, the thermometer columns will drop even lower — to +4...+11°C. The only "island of warmth" will remain Zakarpattia and the southern regions, where the temperature may reach +17...+20°C.

Thunderstorm and wind: what to expect from nature

The main cause of such a meteorological anomaly was the invasion of a cold and moist air mass from Northern Europe. A field of low pressure will cause rain to fall almost throughout the state, with the exception of the western regions. In the southern regions, thunderstorms will be added to the precipitation.

The wind forecast deserves special attention. The north-west wind will blow at a speed of 7–12 m/s. However, residents of the Right Bank should be on their guard: gusts there may reach 15–20 m/s, which creates risks for pedestrians and can damage structures.

After the storm — calm

Despite today's bad weather, forecasters promise an imminent improvement. Warming is expected at the beginning of June. According to preliminary data for the first month of summer, the average temperature will be 1.5 degrees higher than the climatic norm, and thunderstorm activity will become even more intense. In Kyiv, periodic rain and wind are expected today at a temperature of around +15°C.
